The One UI 6.1 update that arrived on the Galaxy S24 brought a nifty AI camera feature for instant slow-motion video. Simply press and hold a video in your library and the S24 Ultra will turn that clip into slow motion footage.
The instant slow-motion feature on the Galaxy S24 will require a resolution limit
This is truly an extremely interesting new feature. However, we discovered that to use this feature, the video must have a minimum resolution of 720p and a maximum of no more than 4K. This requirement applies to all videos, including screen recordings and video files you receive from other devices.
We guess that the AI that powers the Instant Slow Motion feature needs enough data, i.e. the original video must have a resolution no lower than 720p, to generate new frames and turn regular videos into slow motion videos. On the contrary, if the video has too high resolution, such as 8K video, Instant Slow-mo cannot process it to create a slow-motion video from the original video.
However, when using products in the Galaxy S24 series, you will not need to worry about video quality because, from the beginning, they all support high-resolution video recording. And you also cannot edit videos shot with the Galaxy S24 to sub-HD resolution. Additionally, you can avoid using 8K video recordings if you want to play them in instant slow motion.
Furthermore, if you plan to use the Instant Slow Motion feature to record your screen, you need to set a resolution higher than 480p. You can do this by opening the Settings app on your Galaxy device, opening Advanced Features, going to Screenshots and Screen Recordings, and selecting a resolution higher than 480p in the Quality menu video.
If you want to use Instant Slow Motion, along with many other new AI-powered tools, you can pre-order the Galaxy S24 series or wait for the One UI 6.1 update to land on expected Galaxy devices. We also hope the update on older devices includes this Instant Slow Motion feature as well.
