It's no surprise that the Galaxy Tab S10 series supports Galaxy AI. Samsung even redesigned the Keyboard Cover a bit to better accommodate the growing demand for generative AI.
Samsung has launched two keyboard accessories for the Galaxy Tab S10+ and Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra: the Keyboard Cover and the Keyboard Cover (Mouse Pad). Both of them feature a new AI key. To make room for this key, Samsung has removed the Lang key found on the older keyboard accessories.
While the new Galaxy Tab S10 series supports the full range of Galaxy AI features, the new AI key doesn't do much. Specifically, the AI key can only summon Gemini or Bixby when pressed.
Users can choose which AI assistant they want using the Settings app. However, it doesn't seem possible to assign the AI key to a specific Galaxy AI feature.
The Old Keyboard Cover Still Works with the Galaxy Tab S10 Series, But with One Catch
We can confirm that the Keyboard Cover and Keyboard Cover (Mouse Pad) for the Galaxy Tab S9 series work with the Galaxy Tab S10 and vice versa.
As some may know, the keyboard accessory for the Galaxy Tab S8 series is not compatible with the Galaxy Tab S9 series due to the changed location and size of the camera cluster and S Pen charger. This has disappointed many people who had to spend extra money to buy a new accessory when upgrading to the Galaxy Tab S9 series.
So it's a welcome move that Samsung has fixed the fatal flaw. But what about the new AI key? Does it affect backward compatibility?
The keyboard accessory for the Galaxy Tab S9 series does not have an AI key. Therefore, if you use it with the Galaxy Tab S10 series, pressing the Lang key will not summon Gemini or Bixby. You’ll have to access them the old way.
This is probably why we can use the keyboard accessory from the Galaxy Tab S9 series on the Galaxy Tab S10 series. Samsung may be hoping that the new AI key will make users consider buying a new accessory when upgrading to the Galaxy Tab S10 series.
Either way, this is good news for those who own the Galaxy Tab S9 series and want to upgrade to the Galaxy Tab S10 series. They can continue to use the keyboard accessory they already have.
