The April 2024 Google Play system update is now rolling out to Samsung's Galaxy devices, including the premium Galaxy S24 lineup. They were updated to the Google Play January 2024 system a few months ago late. However, it seems that the schedule has been restored.
Google started rolling out the April 2024 Google Play system update on April 17. For now, you can download it to your Galaxy device by opening the Settings app and then navigating to About Phone → Software Information → Google Play System Update.
Next, you just need to wait for the device to check to see if there are any new updates available. If it is, the device will download it and reboot. Once done, you should revisit the Google Play System Update screen to check if your device is up to date as Galaxy devices sometimes receive “fake” Google Play system updates due to errors.
We tested the availability of the new update with the Galaxy S24+ and found everything worked as expected. As you can see in the screenshot above, the device has the April 2024 Google Play system update installed.
Are there any new features? Unfortunately, Google's changelog is a bit sparse, mentioning only a change to the Google Phone app, stating that “Thanks to this new feature, you can connect with contacts in your contacts immediately after setting up your new phone.”
The April 2024 Google Play system update also appears to have landed on Wear OS devices. The changelog says supervised users can now use the new dashboard to view parental controls. We tried downloading it to the Galaxy Watch 5 without success. It will likely take a few more days for the update to hit the Galaxy Watch series.
Overall, whether you receive the April 2024 Google Play system update sooner or later depends on your location, Galaxy device, and many other factors. However, you can always manually check if a new update is available by following the steps we have shown above.
