It looks like Samsung has finally added Google's famous Seamless Update feature to their products. The first Galaxy phone model to have this feature is the newly released Galaxy A55. Meanwhile, high-end Galaxy phone models still do not support Seamless Updates.
Six years after its announcement, Samsung is finally bringing Seamless Updates to Galaxy models
When you update your Galaxy A55, you will see two progress bars: Download and Installation and Verification. Thanks to that, you won't have to wait for your phone to update like before. This change has been confirmed by several users, including Mishaal Rahman.
For those who don't know, Seamless Updates was first introduced by Google in 2016. Unlike the traditional software update process, Seamless Updates can download and install software in the background. In other words, you don't have to restart your device to complete the update process. All thanks to the new subsystem partition. It's still unclear why Samsung doesn't support Seamless Updates until the Galaxy A55.
Additionally, Seamless Updates has another benefit that many Galaxy A55 users may like. Backup partitions are better protected. Therefore, the device can be restored to the old software version if there are any errors during the update installation process. In turn, because there are two different partitions, the available storage capacity will be less. However, phones these days often have large storage capacities, so this isn't a big deal.
Note that the Galaxy A55 does not support Seamless Updates out of the box. You need to update your device to the latest update available at the moment. Therefore, it is likely that the Seamless Update will be rolled out to other Galaxy devices soon. In any case, there is no reason why the Galaxy A55 supports Seamless Updates while the Galaxy S and Galaxy Z series do not.
