What Is Samsung Pay And Why Is It Needed If There Is Google Pay?

With how busy people get these days, things that make life easier are almost always a hit. From automatic appliances to smart homes, people favor convenience. They are set to purchase or get anything that makes life a little bit less stressful.

Samsung Pay has been getting the buzz lately and for good reasons. Instead of paying with cash or swiping your debit and credit cards, you get to pay using your phone. It’s convenient and easy. Plus, it lets you pay

To know more about it and why it's a better choice, read on.

What Is Samsung Pay?

As mentioned earlier, Samsung Pay offers a faster, more convenient way to pay. All you need to do is tap your phone for contactless payment and you're good to go. It’s that simple and easy.

Plus, with the pandemic and the risks of catching viruses and bacteria, it’s a safer option than paying in cash and being in direct contact with other people.

The nice thing about it is that it works with a wide range of carriers in the country. It supports US Cellular, AT&T, Sprint, Verizon, T-Mobile, and Cricket.

Where Can You Use It?

It's compatible and supposed to work with the majority of point-of-sale systems. Examples include the EMV, magnetic stripe, and NFC.

You can also use it on different public transit systems which is a good thing if you're always on the go. You won’t have to dig deep into your pockets for your cards or cash.

However, you may need to have your cash ready whenever you're at gas stations or certain ATMs. You won't be able to use it with readers that require users to physically insert their cards into slots.

How Do You Set Up Samsung Pay?

The process is really direct and easy. All you need to do is install the Samsung Pay app on your phone through your Samsung account. If you don't have one yet, don't worry. The app will automatically prompt you to register using your fingerprint, PIN, or iris scan.

After installation, you can add your debit, credit, or membership card. You can even link your Paypal account.

Is It Secure?

The app doesn't store your credit card numbers or even details of your account. Instead, it relies on tokenization for your transactions, making it one of the most secure methods of online payment.

For example:

When you purchase something, your phone sends the payment terminal two important pieces of data. There's the 16-digit token that represents your card number. The other one is a cryptogram or one-time code generated by the encryption key of your phone.

Even if you don't gave a data connection, you will still be able to do up to 10 transactions with it. However, if you need to add a card or check your transaction history, you'll need to be actively connected to Wi-Fi or your cellular data.

Samsung Pay vs Google Pay: Which Is Better?

Essentially, they are basically the same. Both are mobile payment platforms.

But, here's the catch:

Samsung Pay only works with Samsung devices. For it to work, you'll need a Samsung smartwatch or a Samsung Galaxy phone.

Google Play, on the other hand, is more universal. You can use it on most Android devices. The list includes Samsung Galaxy phones and smartwatches.

Basically, Google Play is like Samsung Pay in the sense that you can add your cards to it. You can tap your device to pay for most things to different NFC payment terminals.

However, Google Pay is generally more than just a service you use to pay for things. You can also use it to track your finances, find really good deals, and even get cash backs.

Another difference is availability.

Samsung Pay is available in 29 countries around the world. Google Play, on the other hand, can be used in 40 countries.

Which One Is For You?

Samsung Pay is a good choice if you already have a Samsung phone to use it with or if you're a fan of the brand. However, if you generally use Android devices, you might be better of with Google Pay since it's compatible with more devices.
