Remember when Galaxy phones had a dedicated Bixby key? Samsung did so starting with the Galaxy S8 series. However, the dedicated Bixby key has now been removed from the Galaxy S20 series onwards. Now, you can summon Bixby using the Side key.
Samsung doesn't allow you to assign any other AI assistant to the Side key. However, that could change in the near future.
Gemini may soon be summoned using the Side key on Galaxy phones and tablets
A new report reveals that Samsung will soon let you summon Google's Gemini using the Side key on Galaxy devices. Digging into the latest version of the Google app, Android Authority's Mishaal Rahman found evidence that leads him to believe that Samsung will enable the Side key for Gemini.
As expected, Bixby is getting a major upgrade. Samsung says the new version of Bixby uses large language models (LLMs) to understand natural language more easily. The new Bixby is already available on some of Samsung's premium home appliances.
One UI 7.0 could come with a new version of Bixby that understands context and natural language much better. Additionally, Samsung could let users summon Bixby or Gemini by holding down the Side key on Galaxy phones and tablets.
