Last week, it was rumored that the Galaxy S24 Ultra will be equipped with a new 50MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom. This is an important upgrade from the 10MP sensor that has been used by Samsung over the past few years. A new leak from a reputable source has revealed details about this image sensor.
According to leak expert Ice Universe, the 50MP sensor of the Galaxy S24 Ultra will have a sensor size of 1/2.52 inch, much larger than the 10MP sensor on the Galaxy S23 Ultra. However, due to the 5x superior resolution, the pixel size has been reduced from 1.12ยตm to 0.7ฮผm. So Samsung can use Pixel Binning to take better-zoomed photos in low light.
Thanks to the large sensor size and high resolution, the Galaxy S24 Ultra can take better photos at any zoom level, as long as there is enough light. The source also said that this phone will have very good image quality at 5x zoom. Samsung will probably focus on promoting the 5x zoom feature even though the new sensor only supports up to 3x optical zoom.
Not long ago, there were rumors that the Galaxy S24 Ultra would have a dedicated 5x zoom lens instead of the current 3x. The rumor was disproved a few months ago, but it turned out to be completely grounded because the machine's 5x zoom photography capabilities have been drastically improved. It is not clear if Samsung plans to upgrade the 10x zoom sensor as it currently only has 10MP resolution.
Galaxy S24 Ultra will be upgraded with an OLED screen
Besides the camera, Samsung is also expected to upgrade the screen for the Galaxy S24 series. Ice Universe confirms that the next generation of the Galaxy S flagship will use OLED panels with the new M13 material. The Galaxy S24 Ultra is said to definitely use the new panel, while the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+ are being considered because new technology could make their prices significantly higher.
New display technology enables better image quality while reducing screen thickness and power consumption. Currently, Samsung is still using M12 material for most of its high-end phone models this year, including the Galaxy S23 series and the newly launched Galaxy Z Fold 5, Galaxy Z Flip 5.
