Samsung switched to Wear OS with the Galaxy Watch4 and hasn't launched any new Tizen-powered wearables since then. And the latest news is that Samsung may stop supporting Tizen smartwatches next year.
Samsung has for some time introduced the Gear, Galaxy smartwatch running the Tizen operating system and is very popular. After that, the company combined with Google to launch Wear OS watches, specifically the Galaxy Watch4 Series. However, Samsung still maintains software updates, bringing some new features to the Tizen watch. However, according to the latest source, Samsung may stop supporting Tizen smartwatches from next year.
Specifically, Samsung has just announced a roadmap to end Galaxy Store support for devices running the Tizen operating system. Starting September 30, 2024, the Galaxy Store will stop selling paid content such as watch faces and apps for Tizen watches. And from May 31, 2025, users will not be able to download any new content on the Galaxy Store. And starting September 2025, you won't be able to re-download any content previously purchased through โMy Appsโ in the Galaxy Store. This means owners of Tizen-powered watches will not be able to access any free or paid content on the Galaxy Store.
This roadmap applies to all Tizen wearables, including the Samsung Gear and Galaxy Watch branded devices. This does not affect the Galaxy Watch4 series and any other devices released since then as they all run Wear OS.
It's no surprise that Samsung eventually decided to discontinue this service. There are much better wearables the company has to offer these days, with a fairly extensive and comprehensive list of Wear OS apps. Besides, there are plenty of deals on Samsung watches that the company regularly offers to help you upgrade more easily.
