On September 5, Samsung rolled out One UI 6.1.1 for the Galaxy S24 series. Just a week later, the update arrived on its premium Galaxy devices launched in 2023. Premium Galaxy devices from 2022 will also get One UI 6.1.1 in the near future.
But what about mid-range Galaxy phones? Will they get One UI 6.1.1 or will they be upgraded straight to One UI 7.0? There are many reasons why I believe Samsung will choose the latter.
Galaxy A55 and other mid-range Galaxy phones could be upgraded straight to One UI 7.0 from One UI 6.1
First of all, Samsung has not mentioned One UI 6.1.1 for mid-range Galaxy phones so far. It is possible that Samsung has simply not announced it yet. However, if that were the case, we should have heard something from Samsung's community forums.
Next, while Samsung has been testing both One UI 6.1.1 and One UI 7.0 for its flagship Galaxy devices, it seems to have been testing One UI 7.0 for its mid-range Galaxy phones like the Galaxy A55 and Galaxy A54.
Another reason we believe Samsung will skip One UI 6.1.1 for its mid-range Galaxy devices is Galaxy AI. This is the main highlight of One UI 6.1.1. Currently, even though many mid-range phones have been updated to One UI 6.1, they only get to experience one Galaxy AI feature: Circle to search on Google.
Finally, One UI x.1.1 updates are typically limited to Galaxy tablets and foldable phones. While other flagships are getting One UI 6.1.1 features, the One UI version for them remains unchanged.
There was a time when some changes to the One UI x.1.1 update were released for mid-range Galaxy phones. However, since Galaxy AI takes more time to develop the software, Samsung may want to shift its focus to One UI 7.0 after completing the One UI 6.1.1 rollout for eligible flagship devices.
In any case, if One UI 6.1.1 or some of the new features and improvements it brings make their way to mid-range Galaxy phones, we will report on it right away. So, make sure to visit SamCafe regularly to not miss any hot news!
