Biometrics is an indispensable and important feature of any modern phone model. Users often enable biometric unlocking when setting up their devices for the first time. However, Samsung recently quietly stopped recommending that users add fingerprints during the initial setup of Galaxy devices, including the new Galaxy Z Fold 6.
One UI's initial setup process guides users through logging into their accounts, setting up networks, setting security, and using biometrics. However, Samsung's new products seem to skip the last step.
I noticed this error when I was setting up my Galaxy Z Fold 6 for the first time. The setup process doesn't mention the fingerprint recognition sensor at all. At first, I didn't think too much about it. However, I quickly discovered that many people were experiencing the same error. 9to5Google and Android Central also confirmed similar behavior on their Galaxy Z Fold 6.
Of course, you can still go into the Settings app to add a fingerprint after the initial setup process. It's just strange that the fingerprint recognition sensor was never mentioned during the initial setup process.
Additionally, I recall that the Galaxy S24 Ultra also did not recommend that I add a fingerprint during the initial setup earlier this year. I quickly ignored this error at the time. TechWithBrett's video on setting up the Galaxy S24 Ultra also makes no mention of the fingerprint recognition sensor. However, videos by WorldofTech and TechnicallyAlex do mention it. Therefore, I think this bug appeared on One UI 6.1 and is becoming more common on One UI 6.1.1.
Hopefully, this bug will be patched quickly. For most people, a fingerprint recognition sensor is an indispensable feature. Therefore, this error can make many people uncomfortable.
