Samsung has just released the December 2024 security update for its Galaxy tablets in the United States. The first models to receive the update include the Galaxy Tab S10+ 5G, Galaxy Tab S9+ 5G, and Galaxy Tab S9 FE 5G. Meanwhile, the Wi-Fi versions of these devices will also be updated soon.
The newly released update comes with firmware version numbers X828USQU2AXK8 (Galaxy Tab S10+ 5G), X818USQU5BXKC (Galaxy Tab S9+ 5G), and X518USQS8BXK6 (Galaxy Tab S9 FE 5G). The build numbers may vary depending on the device variant and your carrier, but the improvements remain the same.
Samsung did not add any new features in this update. Instead, the patch focuses on improving system security and stability. The December security update reportedly fixes more than 40 vulnerabilities, including six critical ones that Google has fixed. This is part of Samsung’s ongoing maintenance and user experience improvement plan.
If you’re using one of the listed Galaxy Tab models, check for an update notification on your device. You can also check for and install it manually by going to Settings > Software update > Download and install. The update has already started rolling out in the US and is expected to hit more regions in the coming days.
The Galaxy Tab S9, S10, and S9 FE tablets are all eligible for the Android 15-based One UI 7.0 update. Samsung is expected to start rolling out the major update in late January 2025, shortly after the launch of the Galaxy S25 series. Currently, the company is in the testing and fine-tuning phase to ensure users receive the smoothest and most stable experience.
