Last month, Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Z Fold 6, Galaxy Z Flip 6, Galaxy Buds 3 series, Galaxy Watch 7, and Galaxy Watch Ultra. Soon after, some people started to mock Samsung and accused it of copying Apple's design language with the Galaxy Buds 3 and Galaxy Watch Ultra series, which apparently angered Samsung's mobile division chairman.
Chairman Lee is said to have stepped in after accusations of Samsung copying Apple's designs
According to a report from AjuNews, Jay Y. Lee, the chairman of Samsung Electronics, has ordered the company's mobile division, Samsung MX, to review its plans. Lee's strict directive came after many accused Samsung of copying Apple's design language for the Galaxy Buds 3, Galaxy Buds 3 Pro, and Galaxy Watch Ultra. They look similar to Apple's AirPods, AirPods Pro, and Watch Ultra 2.
An insider is said to have claimed that tensions are escalating within Samsung MX following the move. “Chairman Lee stepped in after the controversy over Apple’s design copying and the quality issues surrounding the Galaxy Buds 3 and Galaxy Watch 7 series released last month. The internal atmosphere is very bad right now,” he said.
At the press conference held at the Samsung Hongdae Store in South Korea, reporters repeatedly talked about how Samsung’s new devices look exactly like Apple’s.
The Galaxy Buds 3 and Galaxy Buds 3 Pro now have stems like the AirPods and some other wireless earbuds on the market. The tap and swipe gestures are also similar to those of the AirPods. The Galaxy Watch Ultra’s square design and orange color scheme also look similar to the Apple Watch Ultra. Longtime Samsung fans were disappointed that the company abandoned its own design language to follow Apple’s lead.
Not only that, Samsung is also facing quality issues with the Galaxy Buds 3 Pro. Some users received devices with ear tips that were easily torn off. Jay Y. Lee, who usually has a calm demeanor, is said to have shouted and given strict orders to the Samsung MX division.
