Earlier this month, a report from South Korea claimed that Samsung was planning to use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 across the Galaxy S25 lineup. This contradicts a previous leak that said the Galaxy S25 Ultra would only be powered by Qualcomm processors globally, while the Galaxy S25 and Galaxy S25+ would use Exynos or Snapdragon depending on the region. Now, another leak has surfaced on the matter.

The screenshot shows a Samsung phone running the Exynos 2500

On X, @theonecid – a popular tipster – posted a screenshot of an app that shows the hardware and software details of a device. The device in question is said to be from Samsung, with a s5e9955 processor (the Exynos 2500 model number) featuring a ten-core CPU and an Xclipse 950 GPU, 14GB of storage, Android 15, and a 3200px × 1440px display resolution.

Since Samsung typically only uses its flagship Exynos processors for its high-end Galaxy models, the tipster says it is the Galaxy S25, and as the screenshot shows, the device is powered by the Exynos 2500. Based on this assumption, the tipster assumes that the Galaxy S25 will not use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 exclusively as a previous report suggested.

It is likely not a Galaxy S25 series phone

However, Android Authority was sharp enough to notice that the system name contains the term “ERD.” According to the publication, this term could stand for “Exynos Reference Design.” In other words, this could be a device used to test the Exynos 2500 and may not be part of the Galaxy S25 series at all.

If so, it’s still possible that the Galaxy S25 series will only use Qualcomm’s latest flagship processor. After all, Samsung wants to use “only the highest-performance components” for its upcoming flagship phones so that people don’t doubt their performance. This is why the company wants to exclusively use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 for the Galaxy S24 series and leave the Exynos 2500 on the sidelines.

There’s still hope

Apple just unveiled the iPhone 16 series. These are the company’s first AI-focused phones with Apple Intelligence. If Samsung wants to compete with Apple on the AI front, it will have to use a more capable processor for the Galaxy S25 series to deliver more powerful Galaxy AI features. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 is said to be as powerful as or even better than Apple's A18.

However, this is all speculation. There are currently no leaks that provide enough evidence for us to draw a final conclusion about the processor of the Galaxy S25 series. The next Galaxy Unpacked event is still five months away. Therefore, it is likely that the benchmark of the Galaxy S25 series will be leaked in the next few months. Thanks to that, we will have more information about the product.
