Over the past few months, Gemini – Google’s next-generation AI assistant – has received a number of new features. Currently, Gemini is only integrated into Google services. However, Google may integrate Gemini into Samsung’s native apps in the future.
Gemini may be more deeply integrated into Samsung’s native apps
Gemini may soon be integrated into Samsung’s native apps on Galaxy phones and tablets. Android Authority has discovered that Google will use Android 16’s App Functions feature to integrate Gemini with Samsung Calendar, Samsung Clock, Samsung Notes, and Samsung Reminder.
Evidence can be found in the Samsung Reminder app code, which contains references to the com.android.extensions.appfunctions library as well as the app_functions.xml file. A closer look at this XML file reveals that Google's Gemini can perform the following functions via Samsung's native app:
- Samsung Clock
- Create, delete, find, update, and display alarms
- Start, stop, and pause stopwatches
- Create, delete, find, update, and display timers
- Samsung Notes
- Create, delete, find, and update folders
- Create, delete, find, and update notes
- Samsung Reminder
- Create, delete, find, update, and display reminder categories
- Create, delete, find, update, and display reminders
- Samsung Calendar
- Create, delete, find, update, and display events
Since the above integrations seem to be related to Android's App Functions feature, we may only get them with One UI 8.0 based on Android 16 next year.
