The Galaxy S24 has a number of hardware improvements compared to the Galaxy S23, including a brighter screen, larger battery, sturdier body, improved speaker quality, and thinner and more balanced bezels. Now, another source has revealed that Samsung is using a new fingerprint reader on this device.

The Galaxy S24, S24+, and S24 Ultra use a newer and faster ultrasonic fingerprint reader

Universelle shared an article about the video analyzing and reviewing the Galaxy S24 Ultra. Accordingly, Samsung is using the newer 3D Sonic fingerprint reader for this high-end phone line. The part number of this sensor on the S24 Ultra is QFS4008, while that of the S23 Ultra is QBT2608. Although Qualcomm has not revealed much information about the differences between the two fingerprint reader models, they both have the same size (8mm x 8mm) and are both 3D Sonic fingerprint readers.

WekiHome's video review shows the difference between the two fingerprint readers and it seems that the new model recognizes the sensor faster. In many cases, the Galaxy S24 Ultra unlocks slightly faster than the Galaxy S23 Ultra. We also tested the Exynos 2400-equipped Galaxy S24+ and found that it also uses a newer fingerprint reader like that of the Galaxy S24 Ultra. So it seems like the entire Galaxy S24 series is using this new sensor.

Qualcomm has been releasing the 3D Sonic Max fingerprint reader for several years. It has a larger area than the 3D Sonic fingerprint reader used in the Galaxy S21 Ultra and later phones. However, Samsung has not used that fingerprint reader on any phone devices. Therefore, we hope that the company will use the 3D Sonic Max fingerprint reader on its upcoming Galaxy S25 series.
