In an analysis of Samsung's application APK file series, Android Authority discovered that the company is developing a satellite connection feature, which may be integrated into the Galaxy S25 series.
Rumors about Samsung developing a satellite connection feature have appeared since Apple introduced a similar feature on the iPhone 14. However, Samsung's satellite connection feature has not appeared until now. Available on both the latest Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S24.
Recently, the Android Authority news site discovered lines of code showing that Samsung is testing the satellite connection feature on system applications such as Emergency SOS, Messages, and Phone. Accordingly, users can call emergency services and send text messages via satellite when out of mobile coverage area.
However, the satellite messaging feature will apparently only be available when users use the Google Messages app instead of Samsung's default Messages app.
Although Samsung's Exynos 2400 chip is equipped with the ability to support Non-Terrestrial Network connection, the company has chosen not to enable this feature until now. Mr. TM Roh, director of Samsung's MX segment, explained that Samsung is waiting for the satellite connection ecosystem to develop more completely before bringing this feature to their smartphones.
