Previously, we received information about Samsung downgrading the Galaxy Note 20 series from monthly to quarterly updates. However, the company now says it will continue to provide monthly security updates for these devices.
The Galaxy Note 20 series still receives monthly security updates
Samsung's Work Scope page has announced that the Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+, Galaxy S20 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold 2, and Galaxy Z Flip 5G will only receive quarterly updates. Surprisingly, the Galaxy Note 20 series is also on this list despite their release date being later. However, the company has now changed its decision.
Samsung's website has now been updated again. The two Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra variants (for both 4G and 5G versions) return to monthly updates. This is reasonable because they launched in the second half of 2020, much later than the Galaxy S20 series. Therefore, the company should have at least a few more monthly security update cycles before moving to quarterly support.
In addition to the Galaxy Note 20 series, Samsung will continue to support monthly updates for the Galaxy S20 FE because it also released later. The Galaxy Z Fold 2 5G is currently listed on the monthly update schedule, while the 4G variant is on the quarterly list.
All of these phone models are no longer receiving major Android OS updates. However, Samsung will still support security updates for several more years for the device.
