Samsung has partnered with the Korea Cyber and Security Agency (KISA) to integrate a spam box for Galaxy devices.
Samsung and KISA (Korea Cyber and Security Agency) have worked together to develop and operate a spam text message filtering service. As announced on October 18 at Shuiyuan Digital City, South Korea, Samsung will launch Galaxy phones with a built-in Junk Message Bin.
The new Junk Messages Bin will be the home for junk messages you receive on your phone. KISA has partnered with Samsung and other manufacturers to prevent the misuse of text messages for illegal spam or phishing. Samsung also agrees that this service is a measure to prevent phones from receiving spam messages.
The amount of spam messages has increased this year compared to last year.
According to Business Korea, KISA will be responsible for collecting and analyzing data about spam messages. Furthermore, the legality of the data will also be processed by KISA before it is shared with Samsung Electronics. Then, based on data provided by KISA, Samsung will develop and deploy a spam filtering service for Galaxy devices in the form of a "Junk Message Box".
This "Junk Message Box" will be similar to the spam folder of email services. Shady or malicious messages will be automatically filtered and saved in a separate message box to not clutter your main message box. The new feature will be an additional filter for spam messages that major telecommunications companies โ SK Telecom, KT, and LG Uplus โ cannot filter.
According to data from the Korean Communications Commission, the number of spam messages on phones increased by 6.7% this year compared to last year. According to records, from January to August 2023, the total number of spam messages received by mobile devices was 160 489 346. The new spam filtering service is expected to reduce this number significantly.
