Samsung Electronics has revealed the first details about “Project Moohan” (also known as “Project Infinite”), the world’s first extended reality (XR) headset running on the Android XR platform. The device is expected to launch in 2025, marking Samsung’s strategic move into the XR field, combining the real and virtual worlds.
Android XR is a newly launched platform, co-developed by Samsung, Google, and Qualcomm. It supports extended reality technology with multi-modal AI integration. Thanks to the Gemini assistant, users can interact naturally and receive intelligent responses based on the usage context. The platform also expands the XR ecosystem by collaborating with third-party developers, bringing rich content from both Samsung and Google.
According to Samsung, “Project Moohan” is more than just a regular XR device. The name “Moohan”, which means “infinity” in Korean, symbolizes Samsung’s vision of bringing immersive experience, beyond the limits of reality. The design of the headset focuses on comfort, with lightweight and optimized ergonomics.
The first rendering of Project Moohan shows the device in a luxurious gray color with a front that resembles ski goggles. The back padding and headband ensure comfort when using. The controls are logically arranged, supporting users to operate easily. The headset is equipped with a modern display, Qualcomm's Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 chip for powerful performance. This is an upgraded version of the Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2, used in flagship XR devices such as the Meta Quest 3S.
Choi Won-joon, Vice President of Development at the MX Division of Samsung Electronics, said that XR will open up a new dimension, crossing the boundary between the real and virtual worlds. He emphasized that the combination of advanced XR technology and multi-modal AI will create the perfect conditions for new product forms and bring richer experiences through an expanded ecosystem.
Project Moohan is expected to be officially announced with the Galaxy S25 series in early 2025. However, this device may only be released to the market at the end of the year, similar to what Samsung did with the Galaxy Ring. The combination of advanced hardware and the Android XR operating system promises to bring a major breakthrough in the user's extended reality experience.
