Samsung continues to update its foldable devices with the December 2024 security patch for the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Galaxy Z Fold 5. Previously, the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Galaxy Z Fold 6 were the first devices to receive this update. While this is not the expected Android 15-based One UI 7 update, the patch still brings a number of security improvements that should help protect your device from potential threats.

The update has different version numbers depending on the region. In the US, the software for the Galaxy Z Flip 5 is codenamed F731USQS5DXKC and the Galaxy Z Fold 5 is F946USQS5DXKC. Meanwhile, in Europe, the corresponding versions are F731BXXS4DXKC and F946BXXS4DXKC.

The update is still One UI 6.1.1, so users won't notice any changes to the interface or new features. However, this patch focuses on fixing 48 security vulnerabilities, of which 34 are fixed by Google related to the Android core. These vulnerabilities include 28 issues rated as "High" and 6 "Important" vulnerabilities. Samsung has also patched 8 more security vulnerabilities in One UI, related to features like Theme Center, Dex, and the Galaxy Watch's Bluetooth connection. Notably, two vulnerabilities that specifically affect Exynos-powered devices have also been fixed.

Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Z Fold 5 users can receive automatic notifications when the update is available on their devices. If you haven't received a notification yet, you can check manually by going to Settings > Software update > Download and install.
