Samsung is bringing a new feature called “filter notifications” in One UI 7, allowing users to easily control and hide unimportant notifications, avoiding cluttering the notification panel.

Notifications are an indispensable part of helping users stay connected, but many apps often send unnecessary notifications, such as ads or notifications to keep the process running in the background. This can easily make the notification panel cluttered. With One UI 7, Samsung brings a smart approach, helping to filter and group less important notifications into a separate section.

While exploring the latest One UI 7 beta on the Galaxy S24, a Reddit user named FragmentedChicken discovered this feature in Settings > Notifications > Advanced settings. This feature will filter less important notifications and display them as a small group at the bottom of the notification panel.

Users can filter notifications by:

  • Old notifications: Notifications that have been on the device for days and you haven’t dealt with them.
  • Background notifications: These typically come from apps running in the background, like KDE Connect.
  • Manually minimized notifications: Notifications that you’ve set to minimize in your settings.

When these notifications are filtered, they’ll appear as a grouped card at the bottom of the notification panel, like “X other notifications.” Users can simply tap on this card to expand it and see a list of filtered notifications.

The key to this feature is how Samsung maintains the visibility of notifications without disrupting the main notification flow. This creates the perfect balance, helping users not miss important information while keeping the interface clean and uncluttered.

Compared to Google's recent improvements on Android 15 QPR1, where old notifications were completely hidden, Samsung's solution is superior in allowing these notifications to be grouped in a separate section, making them easy to access when needed.
