Samsung has officially introduced Gauss2, an upgraded version of the Gauss generative AI model launched last year. At the Samsung Developer Conference (SDC24), the company highlighted the performance improvements and new features of Gauss2, promising to bring smarter and faster AI experiences to Galaxy devices.

Gauss is a big step forward for Samsung in exploiting AI to increase work efficiency. The company has applied this AI in many internal applications, most notably “code.i” – a tool to support developers in the Device eXperience (DX) division. With the convenience of that code.i brings, 60% of DX developers currently using it. In addition, Gauss has been deployed in call centers to summarize and classify information, as well as in the Samsung Gauss Portal – a conversational AI that supports DX employees. These real-world applications show that Samsung is not just talking about AI, but also applying it effectively.

Gauss2 is designed with three main models: Compact, Balanced, and Supreme, each serving different needs. Compact is a compact version, optimized for on-device tasks, while Balanced focuses on overall performance with a balance of processing speed, efficiency, and accuracy. Supreme, the most advanced version, uses a Mixture of Experts method, combining multiple small models to solve different types of problems with high expertise.

Gauss2 supports between 9 and 14 natural languages, along with several programming languages. Samsung says that the Balanced and Supreme models not only compete with but also outperform other AI models in tasks in English and Korean. In particular, Gauss2 provides processing speeds 1.5 to 3 times faster than before, helping to reduce operating costs and shorten waiting times.

Aiming at the goal of “AI for All”, Samsung is committed to expanding AI services across its entire product line. The company expects to integrate knowledge graph technology into AI to provide more personalized services, helping users experience a more convenient and enjoyable daily life. Gauss2 is a clear demonstration of Samsung’s investment in the future of AI, laying the foundation for a new era of intelligent technology on Galaxy devices.
