Samsung will introduce many groundbreaking new AI features with the Galaxy S24 series next week. These high-end models can translate audio calls in real time, expand photos, move and remove objects from photos and movies, and more. They are part of Galaxy AI in One UI 6.1. While older Galaxy models will get One UI 6.1, they may not get all the new AI features.

Older high-end Galaxy phone models will not experience most of the new features of Galaxy AI

High-end Galaxy models are often announced with a minor One UI upgrade. Last year, the Galaxy S23 series introduced One UI 5.1, while One UI 5.1.1 was introduced with the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5. So it's no surprise that the Galaxy S24 series will ship with One UI 6.1. There is evidence that Samsung is testing One UI 6.1 for some phone models. The company will push the new version of One UI to older Galaxy models a few weeks after the new high-end Galaxy model is released.

However, unlike before, most of the new features of One UI 6.1 may not be compatible with the Galaxy S23 series and other older Galaxy models, especially the new AI features that Samsung developed for the Galaxy S24 series. The source said Samsung will only bring certain AI features to older products. The detailed list is still not disclosed. However, it looks like most will be exclusive to the new high-end models.

This could be due to limitations of the older processors inside the Galaxy S23 series, Galaxy Z Fold 5, Galaxy Z Flip 5, and other Samsung phones that will receive One UI 6.1. The Exynos 2400 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 powering the Galaxy S24 series have superior AI processing capabilities thanks to improved NPU and other changes. They are built for next-generation mobile AI applications.

Galaxy AI doesn't work completely offline

Although Samsung deeply integrates Galaxy AI into the Galaxy S24 series, some features do not work offline. For example, new AI-powered photo and movie editing tools require a network connection. The leak also suggests that users will have the ability to choose their preferred generative AI model for certain tasks. Options include ChatGPT and Samsung's in-house solution, known as Gauss. The Galaxy S24 series will be launched on January 18. So you won't have to wait long for more information.
