In the Galaxy AI suite, there is Instant Slow Motion. You can currently experience this feature on the Galaxy S24 series running One UI 6.1. Instant Slow Motion uses on-device AI to create additional frames inserted between existing frames, resulting in a slow-motion movie.

With the April 2024 update, support for 480px × 480px videos at 24fps was added. As a result, creating and sharing slow-motion videos on social media has become easier than ever.

You can use this feature by long pressing on any existing clip inside the Gallery. That's all it takes for that video to be slowed down four times.

In addition to the Galaxy S24 series, this feature can also be experienced on the Galaxy Z Fold 5, Galaxy Z Flip 5, Galaxy Tab S9 series, and Galaxy S23 series (Galaxy S23 FE is not included) with the latest update.

How Instant Slow Motion Works

Instant Slow Motion uses AI Frame rate conversion (AI FRC) technology, which analyzes two frames of video to interpolate new frames by extracting motion information. The new frames are then inserted between the old frames.

The above process is repeated in two dimensions to improve the accuracy of the newly created frames. The Fusion map and Residual pipeline are leveraged to detect motion differences and apply additional corrections to make the final result look as smooth and sharp as possible.
