Samsung is currently the company that makes the best Folding phones today

Samsung's foldable smartphone has proven to be almost as reliable as a regular phone, contrary to what belief says otherwise. However, there's no guarantee that foldable phones from other brands will be reliable. Google doesn't want people buying expensive foldable phones powered by Android to swallow. That's why they are working hard to put in place some mandatory hardware requirements for foldable devices to maintain specific quality standards.

According to Mishaal Rahman, Google will require all foldable phones running Android to have at least 200,000 folds / unfolds. This is the same number of folds/opens that the Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5 are guaranteed to last. Google will also require brands to provide at least two major Android OS upgrades and three years of security updates for foldable phones. Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 are guaranteed to receive 4 major OS upgrades and 5 years of security updates. That means Samsung's foldable phone has significantly exceeded these requirements.

However, that is not all. Mishaal claims that Google will be making phones with a torque hinge that is required to retain 80% of its original frictional torque after 200,000 folds/opens, ensuring that the hinge doesn't start to loosen over time. Samsung did not say how much frictional torque the Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip series devices retain after a certain number of folds/opens. However, we haven't seen people complain about it yet. So we're guessing that the hinges on these phones are also good enough to meet this claim.

While this initiative is a step in the right direction to maintain the quality of foldable phones running on Android, we hope that Google also works to make its apps work and look good. than on foldable smartphones. First, it can make Gmail run in split-screen mode on the Galaxy Z Fold 5's foldable display without having to rotate the phone in landscape mode. The company should also encourage developers to optimize apps for foldable phones and give them higher priority on the Google Play Store.
