Samsung recently announced that its Galaxy Watch line in the US can detect sleep apnea. Samsung Health Monitor application has received De Novo certification from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The new feature detects signs of sleep apnea. This is one of the most common sleep disorders.

Galaxy Watch in the US can detect sleep apnea starting in the third quarter of 2024

This feature requires you to use a compatible Galaxy Watch model and a Galaxy phone. Besides, your phone must have the Samsung Health Monitor application installed. People 22 and older can monitor their sleep at least twice to see if they have signs of sleep apnea. This is a common chronic sleep disorder that often goes undiagnosed and untreated.

To use this feature, you need to track your sleep twice, each time lasting at least four hours. As the name suggests, this is a sleep disorder that causes a person to stop breathing while sleeping, causing the body's oxygen supply to be interrupted. Additionally, sleep quality is impaired, making the person tired during the day. If left untreated, sleep apnea can increase heart-related problems, including arrhythmia, coronary artery disease, heart failure, hypertension, and stroke.

The National Sleep Foundation (NSF) has found that about 25% of men and 10% of women in the United States have sleep apnea. Having a good night's sleep helps you have good health and a clear mind. Samsung is trying to provide users with more health tools through the Galaxy Watch line. Sleep Apnea Detection will be available in the US in the third quarter of 2024.
