One of the best things Samsung has done with the Galaxy Tab S10 series is cross-compatibility of accessories between the Galaxy Tab S9 series and the Galaxy Tab S10 series. This means that those who purchase the Galaxy Tab S10 series can continue to use the keyboard and cover for the Galaxy Tab S9 series.
Similarly, Galaxy Tab S9 series users can purchase and use accessories for the Galaxy Tab S10 series with one exception. All the features of the Keyboard Cover for the Galaxy Tab S10+ and Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra work on the Galaxy Tab S9 series except for the new Galaxy AI key.
The new Galaxy AI key summons a virtual assistant of the user’s choice. However, this feature is not available on the Keyboard Cover for the Galaxy Tab S9 series.
We had previously speculated that Samsung might fix this shortcoming by rolling out an update for the Galaxy Tab S9 series. It has been reported that Samsung will do so.
One UI 7.0 for Galaxy Tab S9 Series Will Add Support for Galaxy AI Key
Samsung recently released a commercial for the Galaxy Tab S10 series Keyboard Cover. When the ad shows the Galaxy AI key, there is a small print at the bottom left edge of the screen that says:
“On Galaxy Tab S9 and Tab S9 FE devices, One UI 7.0 or later is required to support the Galaxy AI Key functionality. It may require a One UI update.”
All in all, the commercial confirms that the Galaxy AI Key will be available to Galaxy Tab S9 series owners after updating their devices to One UI 7.0.
However, they may have to wait a while. One UI 7.0 is a huge update. Hence, Samsung announced at SDC24 that the update’s release has been pushed back to early next year. Besides, we think that the Galaxy Tab S9 series will not be among the first products to get One UI 7.0.
