Google has introduced some significant Android 15 improvements like NFC wireless charging support, better Auracast Bluetooth, and default notes and wallet app options. However, the addition of new features is not yet complete, but many other improvements are gradually being revealed as the Google I/O 2024 event gets closer and closer.

Android 15 could let the lock screen, notifications, and quick settings toggles work better in landscape mode

Android Authority has revealed that Android 15 will bring an optimized horizontal layout for both the lock screen, notification panel, and quick settings toggle.

In the current version of Android, when you rotate your phone horizontally, notifications appear from the center, leaving a lot of unused space on either side of the screen. The same is true for the quick settings toggles, the icon size is too large in this mode. This is a problem that both Android 14 and One UI 6.0 are facing. However, things will get a lot better with Android 15.

As you can see in the screenshots above and below, when you rotate your Android 15 phone into landscape mode, the lock screen displays the clock widget on the left, leaving space for notifications on the right. In the phone unlocking interface, the keypad will appear on the right, while the entered PIN will appear on the left, taking full advantage of the screen.

After unlocking the phone, you simply swipe down from the top of the screen to reveal both the notification panel and quick settings buttons, each taking up an edge of the screen. It will not leave any wasted space like Android 14. Apparently, this new design has been in development since September 2023 on Android 14 QPR1 Beta 1. However, the implementation is not complete and There are still some errors.

Google is expected to have completed landscape UI development for the home screen, lock screen, notification panel, and quick settings toggles by the time it announces Android 15 at the Google I/ event. O 2024 takes place on May 14, 2024. These improvements are expected to come to One UI 7.0, making Galaxy phones more efficient in landscape mode.
