Samsung used to be the leading Android phone company when it came to how long the software was supported. After that, Google shocked the online community when it announced a seven-year Android operating system update policy - something unprecedented in the Android industry - for the Pixel 8 series.

However, Samsung regained the throne when the Galaxy S24 series also had a similar policy. In other words, they will receive continuous software updates until 2031!

Samsung says people are now holding onto their phones longer

The folks at GSMArena asked Samsung why they decided to provide seven Android OS updates for the Galaxy S24 series. Nicholas Porter โ€“ Vice President of Samsung โ€“ said that the company's analysis shows that increased software support increases the value of the device. Furthermore, the company discovered that people tend to use a phone longer than before.

Samsung also discovered that even if some people don't care about cutting-edge software, they will still benefit from increased security. In addition, even after several years of using the device, the user experience will still be good.

Samsung has committed to providing seven years of operating system and security updates for the Galaxy S24 series. This year's Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip are expected to enjoy the same policy. For mid-range and low-cost phones, the company is starting to offer four years of operating system updates and five years of security updates.
