One UI 6.0 user has discovered the Pixel Shift feature is malfunctioning, which can cause OLED displays to burn images.
Samsung is actively rolling out One UI 6.0 based on Android 14 to their Galaxy customers. A few devices have received the update filled with improvements and new features.
However, some users experiencing One UI 6.0 have reported an issue related to the pixel-shifting feature on the OLED screen, which could potentially cause permanent image retention. This issue was first mentioned on Reddit.
What is image retention?
OLED screens are susceptible to image retention, causing part of the screen to permanently change color, affecting display quality. Samsung introduced the Pixel Shift feature with One UI 5.0 to prevent burn-in from occurring. However, this feature seems to be glitchy on One UI 6.0.
How does One UI 6.0 affect Samsung Galaxy phone screens?
With One UI 6.0, some people noticed that the status bar icons no longer change position as expected. One Reddit user noticed this issue could be verified with a simple three-step test:
- Take a screenshot with the status bar displayed.
- Rotate the screen from portrait to landscape and vice versa five times.
- Open the screenshot in the Gallery app to review the position of the status bar.
The above user also shared screenshots taken on both One UI 5 and One UI 6, showing that the status bar on the new software does not move at all. This indicates that the Pixel Shift feature is malfunctioning.
This feature still seems to work for the navigation bar. However, the icons in the status bar are not moved.
Several users have confirmed to be facing this error on Reddit. This raises concerns about the Pixel Shift feature on One UI 6.0. Samsung will likely fix this error with an upcoming software update. However, the company has not yet acknowledged the problem.
