The Galaxy Watch 6 series uses a new strap release mechanism that some users report causes the watch to fall.

The Galaxy Watch 6 series' new proprietary band release mechanism did not sit well with some users, causing the band to randomly detach from the watch.

Samsung didn't completely overhaul the way the band is removed with the Galaxy Watch 6 series. Instead, it added a unique way to remove the band for these or any other compatible models.

The Galaxy Watch 6 series still uses the 20mm latch that is quite commonly used on watches. But instead of a latch set up with a small knob that can be pushed like before, Samsung has used a small button that slides both latches in when pressed so you can attach the strap. Looks so easy, right?

Unfortunately, according to some users on Reddit, the above mechanism is causing some serious problems. According to reports, that small button can easily and accidentally be pressed by the wrist. A video has been posted to YouTube showing how easily this incident can happen.

Users reported the strap separating during normal use. Of course, this could be because they wear the watch too tightly. But even so, users shouldn't have to go through this problem all day. Either way, the Galaxy Watch 6 series is advertised to track users while they exercise.

We personally have never encountered this problem. However, it is not difficult to see how the above problem could occur. However, we found that it's really difficult to press the detach button with the wrist.

If you're experiencing this problem regularly, you should contact Samsung or find a nice third-party strap that uses a 20mm pin. You can even buy a strap for the Galaxy Watch5 to use with the Galaxy Watch 6 series.

It's unclear whether Samsung will do anything to address the issue, as it's possible that only a small number of users are affected. Either way, Samsung should ditch this design next year in favor of something a little more reliable.
