Information about the Galaxy S25 series started appearing a few months ago, although it's still about half a year before their official launch. Recently there were rumors about the Galaxy S25 Ultra only having three rear cameras, however, it was quickly denied. It seems that Samsung continues to use the four-camera cluster with important upgrades.
New leak expert Ice Universe shared on social network Weibo that the Galaxy S25 Ultra still has four rear cameras with a 200MP main sensor and a 50MP telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom. Notably, the super wide-angle camera and 3x lens will be upgraded to 50MP resolution.
If this information is accurate, all Galaxy S25 Ultra lenses will be upgraded to newer sensors with higher resolution. Previously, Samsung stuck with a 3x 10MP resolution sensor since the Galaxy S21 Ultra in 2021. The latest Galaxy S24 Ultra model also uses this sensor, alongside a 12MP ultra-wide-angle camera.
While most other high-end Android phones have 50MP cameras or even higher, Samsung uses 10MP and 12MP sensors for the telephoto and ultra-wide cameras on its highest-end Galaxy S model. So, it's great that the Korean company intends to bring a major camera upgrade to the Galaxy S25 Ultra.
Using a high-resolution sensor allows Samsung to take advantage of pixel-binning technology on this telephoto lens. This can help improve 3x photography and portraits in low light. It is also useful for hybrid zoom, improving image quality when zooming from 3x to 5x. Additionally, a high-resolution 3x zoom lens can support macro shooting for sharp close-up shots.
Besides, the 50MP ultra-wide-angle camera can also take better photos in low light conditions thanks to pixel-binning technology. It could also theoretically enable 8K ultra-wide recording.
Previously, there were rumors that Samsung would use a newer 200MP camera sensor with a size closer to a 1-inch sensor for the Galaxy S25 Ultra. If all of this is true, then this could be one of the best and most desirable camera phones of 2025.
