From what we know, One UI 7.0 is full of interesting surprises, but not all of them will be to our liking.
One UI 7 no longer supports downloading Edge Panels from the Galaxy Store
Earlier this week, Samsung informed Galaxy users that they can no longer purchase and download Edge Panels from the Galaxy Store on devices running One UI 7 or later.
Currently, Galaxy users can open the Edge Panels settings page and tap the Galaxy Store button to see the available Edge Panels. Some are free; some require you to pay. Here's what the Edge Panels interface looks like in One UI 6.1.1.
The Galaxy Store page above won't be accessible on devices running One UI 7 or later. Samsung says that while you won't be able to purchase and download new Edge Panels, those downloaded before your device updated to One UI 7.0 will still be available on the Galaxy Store's My Apps page.
You'll lose paid Edge Panels if you uninstall them
However, Samsung adds that once you switch to One UI 7, you won't be able to download Edge Panels that you already own once you uninstall them.
In other words, as long as you had third-party Edge Panels on your device at the time your device updated to One UI 7.0, you can continue to use them. However, if you uninstall those Edge Panels after your device is upgraded to One UI 7.0, you won't be able to download them again.
This applies to both free and paid Edge Panels. If you want to continue using the Edge Panels you paid for after upgrading your device to One UI 7.0, you can't uninstall them. If you do, they'll apparently be gone forever.
While the Galaxy Edge Panels page won't be accessible, the Edge Panels feature itself won't be removed in One UI 7.0. However, we wouldn't be surprised if Samsung were to remove the feature from One UI at some point. This could be the first step.
Finally, it looks like the Galaxy Store's Edge Panels page will still be accessible from devices running older versions of One UI. In other words, for those who can't experience One UI 7.0, nothing will change. How long will the Galaxy Store's Edge Panels page stay open? Samsung hasn't specified yet.
