Back in July, Samsung confirmed that Google Messages would replace Samsung Messages as the default messaging app on some new Galaxy phones. However, according to some users, it seems that Samsung is also encouraging users of older phones to switch their messaging app to Google Messages.

Samsung encourages users of older phones to switch their default messaging app to Google Messages

Specifically, many users on Reddit and Threads reported that they received a notification to switch to Google Messages as the default messaging app on older Galaxy phones. It is known that the devices that received the new notification from Samsung include the Galaxy S20 Ultra, Galaxy S21 Ultra, and Galaxy S22 Plus.

Although users can still continue to use Samsung Messages if they want, it is clear that Samsung is encouraging users to switch to Google Messages so that they can use the new features and RCS standards. Samsung's choice of Google Messages as the default messaging app shows the close cooperation between the two technology giants, and clearly demonstrates the common goal of promoting the new generation messaging standard RCS.

With newly launched phone models such as Galaxy Z Fold6 and Galaxy Z Flip6, Samsung has also removed the Samsung Messages app and replaced it with Google Messages. According to expert Mishaal Rahman, Galaxy devices in the European and Canadian markets still have Samsung Messages pre-installed. In the Vietnamese market, the Galaxy Z Flip6 model also has both Google Messages and Samsung Messages installed.
