Samsung is expected to unveil the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition with a slimmer body, larger display, and better cameras than the Galaxy Z Fold 6. It was previously rumored that Samsung would launch the product this month. Now, the exact launch date of the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition has been revealed.

Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition may launch in October 2024

According to a report from fnNews, Samsung will announce the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition on October 25, 2024. With this phone, the company aims to match Chinese foldable phone makers in terms of screen size and thinness.

The report claims that the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition is 4.9mm thin when unfolded and 10.6mm thin when folded, a big improvement over the 5.6mm and 12.1mm of the Galaxy Z Fold 6.

The Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition is rumored to be very powerful and support Galaxy AI. The dust and water resistance is likely to be IP48, similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 6.

With this phone, Samsung wants to shake off the consumer perception that it can’t make thin foldable phones. It wants to prove to the world that it can make a durable, ultra-thin, and powerful foldable phone.

Previous reports said that Samsung has increased the size of the outer display from 6.3” on the Galaxy Z Fold 6 to 6.5” on the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition. The main display of the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition is said to be 8” in size, larger than the 7.6” main display of the Galaxy Z Fold 6.

In addition, the product is rumored to have a 200MP main camera. Other cameras may remain similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 6.

Samsung was once the leader in the global foldable display market but fell to second place in the first quarter of this year. Its foldable phone market share has dropped to 23%, below HUAWEI's 35%. Meanwhile, HONOR, Motorola, and OPPO are said to have 12%, 11%, and 8% of the market respectively.
