Samsung has revealed all the details about its latest update. The company will soon release the August 2024 update to eligible Galaxy phones and tablets. As usual, high-end devices will get the update first.

Samsung's August 2024 update patches 50 security vulnerabilities

After Google detailed its August 2024 security patches for Android on Sunday, Samsung revealed all the details about its own August 2024 update, which patches 50 security vulnerabilities found in the previous version of the software.

35 of the patches are provided by Google. One of them is marked as critical, while the rest are of medium priority. Additionally, one patch is provided by Samsung Semiconductor (Samsung's microchip manufacturing division).

The remaining 14 patches apply only to Galaxy phones and tablets. Samsung detailed 12 of them on its security bulletin page. Most of them involve access control flaws in several system services, including ExtControlDeviceService, Galaxy Watch, and Knox.

Code bypass bugs were also found in several functions, including libcodec2secmp4vdec.so and libsmat.so. Insufficient access cases were handled improperly in KnoxDualDARPolicy, SumeNNService, and Telephony. Finally, improper input validation was found in the librtp.so function.

The issues could allow an attacker to gain unauthorized access to data stored on the device or cause the device to crash. Samsung may start rolling out the August 2024 update for Galaxy phones and tablets this week.

Next, Samsung could roll out the One UI 6.1.1 update to its premium devices, bringing a number of improvements and new features, including the Galaxy AI features found on the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6.
