The Galaxy Watch 4 was a milestone in Samsung's transition to Wear OS. With a promise of four years of software support, many users expected the watch to continue receiving the Wear OS 6-based One UI 8 Watch update, which is expected to be released later this year.
However, recent information is making that possibility more uncertain. In its latest press release, Samsung said that the One UI 8 Watch beta program only applies to the Galaxy Watch 5 series and later. The Galaxy Watch 4 was not mentioned at all, and when asked further, Samsung has yet to provide any official response.
The Galaxy Watch 4 has already undergone several major updates since its launch in August 2021 with Wear OS 3. It was upgraded to Wear OS 3.5 in 2022, Wear OS 4 in 2023, and most recently Wear OS 5 in late 2024. So if the One UI 8 Watch update is released after August 2025, it could be well past Samsung's four-year support commitment.
While Samsung hasn't officially confirmed that the Galaxy Watch 4 will be removed from the update list, the lack of a name in the announcement and the release window could mean that the device is no longer part of the next upgrade plan. Users will have to wait for the official release to know for sure what the software fate of the watch will be.
