The Korea Communications Commission has announced the development of an “artificial intelligence (AI)-based malicious message blocking” feature in collaboration with the Korea Internet and Security Agency (KISA) and Samsung Electronics. The feature is implemented under the government’s ‘Comprehensive Measures to Prevent Illegal Spam’ project, which was launched in November last year to protect users from malicious messages such as gambling ads, illegal loans, or inappropriate content.
This AI technology automatically detects and blocks messages with suspected malicious content right on smartphones. The system is capable of identifying spam phone numbers and dangerous links (URLs) that are believed to contain malicious code or unwanted ads.
Samsung Electronics is expected to apply this feature first to the Galaxy S25 series and then expand it to other models through the Android 15 (One UI 7) operating system update. Users can choose to unblock or review messages that have been blocked by AI, including spam messages that users have blocked themselves.
“Samsung Electronics’ implementation of the AI spam blocking feature is a major step forward in protecting users from scams and unwanted messages. We will continue to work closely to create a safe and trustworthy mobile environment,” said Shin Young-gyu, director of the Broadcasting and Communications Consumer Policy Bureau of the Korea Communications Commission.
