Samsung has just announced the first features that will be available on One UI 8 Watch, the new software version for Galaxy watches. Expected to launch with the Galaxy Watch 8 series, One UI 8 Watch will also be released for older Galaxy Watch models in the near future, focusing on improving the health and fitness experience for users.
One UI 8 Watch brings outstanding features, including Antioxidant Index, Bedtime Guidance, Running Coach, and Vascular Load. These tools help users build healthy habits, improve fitness, sleep, and cardiovascular health comprehensively.
Antioxidant Index: This feature uses the BioActive sensor built into the Galaxy Watch to measure carotenoid levels in the body in just 5 seconds. Carotenoids are natural antioxidants found in green vegetables and orange fruits, helping to neutralize free radicals and slow down the aging process. When the user places their finger on the sensor, the watch will measure and display the index. This feature is currently available as a beta in Labs.
Bedtime Guidance: Samsung continues to improve its sleep tracking capabilities by analyzing your daily habits and sleep cycles over the past three days. Based on this data, the watch recommends an ideal bedtime to ensure you stay alert the next day and sends reminders to help you maintain a regular schedule. This is a useful feature for those with irregular sleep patterns.
Running Coach: This feature provides personalized training and real-time guidance based on your current fitness level. After running continuously for 12 minutes with the Galaxy Watch, the system will evaluate your running performance on a scale of 1 to 10 and build a training plan that suits your goals, such as 5km, 10km, half marathon, or marathon. Users will be upgraded to a new level when completing each stage, helping to increase training efficiency while limiting injuries.
Vascular Load: This is an index that reflects the level of pressure on the vascular system during sleep. A healthy vascular system will reduce pressure at night to recovery. If this index fluctuates abnormally, it can be an early warning sign of cardiovascular problems. Galaxy Watch can measure Vascular Load if the user wears the device while sleeping for at least three nights in a row within two weeks.
Hon Pak, Senior Vice President and Head of Digital Health at Samsung, shared that sleep continues to play a central role in the company's healthcare strategy. He emphasized that the Galaxy Watch will provide a more comprehensive view of sleep, thereby promoting positive changes in daily life.
Currently, Samsung has only revealed a group of health and fitness-related features that will be available on One UI 8 Watch. Other changes, such as a new interface, improved applications, and ecosystem integration, may be announced in the near future.
