The Log video recording feature (logarithmic profile) was brought to Galaxy flagships by Samsung through the One UI 7 update. However, this feature is currently only applied to the rear camera cluster. In the latest internal build of One UI 8, Samsung is adding Log video recording capabilities to the selfie camera, and an administrator in the Samsung community in Korea has also confirmed this.
Video Log allows users to record with a wider dynamic range, retaining more details in the highlights and shadows. Although the original colors may look quite pale, this format is extremely ideal for post-production color correction. This is a powerful tool for content creators and professional videographers, not a popular feature but very valuable for those who need it.
After bringing the Log mode to flagships via One UI 7, Samsung is now expanding the feature to the selfie camera in the One UI 8 update. It is expected to come to the Galaxy S25 series, Galaxy Z Fold 6, Flip 6, and even the Galaxy S24 series.
Notably, many sources believe that this feature may be released by Samsung in the June security update instead of waiting for One UI 8. This makes sense because the One UI 8 beta may initially be limited to some regions, while the rollout of the Log video feature via the June update will reach more users globally.
Whether it is released early or waits for the Android 16 update, the Log video feature with the front camera will definitely be an important upgrade for those who love filming with their smartphones. Let's wait and see what else Samsung reveals in the coming weeks.
