The Galaxy S25 Edge impresses with its ultra-thin and lightweight design, but many people are concerned about its battery capacity. With a body of only 5.8mm, Samsung's new flagship is forced to sacrifice some of its battery, leading to many questions about its ability to maintain usage time during the day. However, a Samsung leader has reassured users about this issue.
In an interview with Tom's Hardware, Mr. Blake Gaiser, director of smartphone product management at Samsung Electronics America, said that focusing only on technical specifications while ignoring the actual experience is inappropriate. He compared the Galaxy S25 Edge to a "comfortable" device that combines both performance and design factors. Although Samsung had to cut battery capacity to make the device thinner, the company still designed the device to be enough for most users to use all day.
Mr. Gaiser said that through internal tests, the Galaxy S25 Edge can operate from morning to night without needing to be recharged. The battery life is even better than the standard Galaxy S24. According to him, that is enough to meet normal usage needs. Personally, he has never encountered any serious battery-related problems when using the device.
Some users expect Samsung to apply Silicon Carbon batteries on the Galaxy S25 Edge, a type of battery with an energy density about 15% higher than traditional lithium-ion batteries. If this technology is applied, the Galaxy S25 Edge can completely own a 4,500mAh battery in the same size. However, a Samsung representative said that the company still prioritizes choosing traditional battery technology at the present time for reasons of stability and optimizing the supply chain.
Mr. Gaiser also said that there are a large number of users who want to own the high-end features of the Galaxy S25 Ultra but do not like the bulkiness, large camera cluster or S Pen. The Galaxy S25 Edge was created to meet this audience, with a more compact design but still retains many high-end features such as a titanium frame, 200MP camera, flagship chip, modern AI features and a commitment to upgrade Android for 7 years.
