Samsung is expected to officially release One UI 8 next month, alongside the launch of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7. Through leaked builds and the ongoing beta testing program, the user community has gotten an early look at some of the new features that will be coming to the stable update. One of them is Call Captions, a feature that supports subtitles during calls.
Call Captions first appeared in the One UI 8 ZYF5 build, which was spotted by leaker Tarun Vats on the X platform. This is a different build than the currently released ZYF3 beta, and will likely be the next beta, although this has not been officially confirmed.
When testing the feature on an international device running ZYF5, Call Captions allowed for voice-to-text conversion during calls. While the feature still had some rough edges, it basically worked properly. The interface displays captions for both sides of the conversation, which is especially helpful for users with hearing difficulties or in noisy environments.
Samsung describes the feature as a listening aid, with a warning that users should notify the other party in advance if the call is being recorded with captions. Currently, the feature only supports English (India), and the option to change the language is still disabled.
Samsung is expected to continue expanding language support in future updates or in the official version. If completed well, Call Captions could become a useful utility, improving accessibility and user experience on the Galaxy.
