One UI 7 delay forces Samsung to change strategy

Samsung has delayed the release of the One UI 7.0 update for longer than usual, forcing the company to make a surprising decision. Instead of continuing with the usual roadmap of One UI 7.1 and One UI 7.1.1, Samsung may go straight to One UI 8.0 after the release of One UI 7.0.

Reliable tipster Ice Universe recently revealed that Samsung may skip One UI 7.1 and One UI 7.1.1 due to issues related to the development progress of One UI 7.0. This means that upcoming foldable devices like the Galaxy Z Flip 7, Galaxy Z Fold 7, and the new foldable device may run on One UI 7.0 or One UI 8.0 instead of One UI 7.1.1 as originally planned.

The main reason for this change is that Google is accelerating the release of Android 16 earlier than previous Android versions. This does not give Samsung enough time to develop One UI 7.1, One UI 7.1.1, and One UI 8.0 simultaneously based on Android 16. To ensure that it does not affect its upgrade schedule, Samsung may have decided to focus on One UI 8.0, instead of developing smaller updates.

One UI 7.0 was officially launched with the Galaxy S25 series last month. Currently, this update is available on some mid-range and low-cost devices of Samsung such as Galaxy M06 5G, Galaxy M16, Galaxy A36, and Galaxy A56. However, some flagship models launched last year such as Galaxy S24, Galaxy Z Flip 6, and Galaxy Z Fold 6 have not received this update yet, leaving many users waiting.

Additionally, it is reported that Samsung will expand the One UI 7.0 Beta testing program to more devices in the near future. Models such as the Galaxy S23, Galaxy Z Flip 6, Galaxy Z Fold 6, and Galaxy A55 may be added to the testing list later this month. If that is the case, the stable One UI 7.0 update may start rolling out to some Galaxy devices in April 2025.
