One UI 7.0 delay could lead to Samsung canceling One UI 7.1 and 7.1.1

Samsung's delay in rolling out One UI 7.0 could have a number of consequences, affecting its software update roadmap this year. According to some reports, instead of releasing One UI 7.1 and 7.1.1 as usual, Samsung may replace it with One UI 7.0.1, which is expected to launch with the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7.

Typically, Samsung has a clear update cycle: One UI x.0 was introduced late last year with a new Android update, followed by One UI x.1 with the new Galaxy S series in January, and finally One UI x.1.1 in the middle of the year with the Galaxy Z foldable phones. However, the delay of One UI 7.0 has disrupted this plan.

According to Samsung's tradition, One UI 7.0 was supposed to launch last year, and the Galaxy S25 series shipped with One UI 7.1. One UI 7.1.1 will then arrive on the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 in the second half of 2025. But with Samsung still yet to roll out One UI 7.0 in mid-February, any future plans will be affected. While the Galaxy S25 launched with One UI 7.0, older devices may have to wait until April or May to receive the update. This makes it more likely that Samsung will scrap One UI 7.1 altogether. If SamMobile's report is accurate, One UI 7.1.1 could also be scrapped, with the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 launching with One UI 7.0.1 instead. If that's the case, One UI 7.0.1 may not be a major update, but rather a minor tweak, rather than a major feature update like One UI 6.1.1.

This information is further supported by some sources, including Ice Universe, who revealed that Samsung is still developing three more betas before releasing the stable One UI 7.0. That means the One UI 7.0 version that appears on the Galaxy S25 may not be the final version yet.

All in all, One UI 7.0 is still a few months away from being fully rolled out, and if Samsung does indeed cancel One UI 7.1 and 7.1.1, users may not receive any major updates until One UI 8.0, which is based on Android 16, rolls out later this year. Even Galaxy S25 Ultra users may have to wait longer to get the stable One UI 7.0 version they've been waiting for.
