Samsung continues to maintain a steady pace of software updates, having just released the May 2025 security patch for the Galaxy S25 series in the US market. This move comes in parallel with the rollout of One UI 7 to many older Galaxy devices. This update is expected to be expanded to international markets soon. However, the previously rumored camera improvements and new features do not appear in this update.
The May 2025 security update is now available for locked Galaxy S25 models in the US, with the software code S93*USQS3AYDF. The OTA size is over 600MB and may vary depending on the device version and carrier. For example, the AT&T locked Galaxy S25+ received an update weighing in at around 670 MB.
Despite its large size, it is noted that this update mainly focuses on security patches. The “S” character in the software code string (between “Q” and “3”) indicates that this is not an update with interface changes or new features; such versions usually have the character “U”. This is also confirmed in the official update notes from Samsung.
Another notable detail is that the May 2025 update also comes with a security policy update, which means the bootloader is upgraded. Specifically, the bootloader is upgraded to version v3, shown by the 5th character from the end in the build code. Previously, the April update upgraded the bootloader from v1 to v2. When the bootloader is updated, users will not be able to revert to older software versions.
As for the expected camera improvements, Samsung has yet to roll out any changes to the photo or video quality of the Galaxy S25 in this update. Earlier rumors suggested that the company would improve the camera and transition effects on its latest flagship, but it is possible that these updates will be integrated in a separate patch later this month or pushed back to June.
Users are also waiting for details on the vulnerabilities patched in the May 2025 security update. As usual, Samsung will release an official security bulletin early next week. In addition to the Galaxy S25, this update is expected to be widely deployed to other eligible Galaxy devices in the US and global markets in the near future.
